Department of Business Economics

The School of Studies in Business Economics was established in March, 1979, under the able leadership of our founder late Prof. V.C. Sinha Ex. Vice Chancellor, Awadhesh Pratap Singh, University, Rewa. This is the Second University in India and the first in the State to introduce Business Economics as a Post-Graduate Programme, the first being Delhi. There had been a long-standing demand by various organizations for trained graduates who have a sound background of economic principles and their applications in day-to-day life. The study of Business Economics develops the basic concepts used for decision making for both short and long term planning. It also examines the relationships useful in predicting the consequences of decisions and effects of economic environment on the behavioral pattern of firms. Under the canopy of Business Economics Department several courses are running namely- M.Com. and B.Com. (Hons), BALLB and LLM.

The teaching in the department is lecture based. However, seminars and discussions take place as and when required. The principal discipline of study includes: Micro Economics, Business Environment and Business Policy, Statistics, International Economics, Economics of Growth, Planning & Project Evaluation, Financial Management, Personnel Management & Industrial Relations, Marketing Management & Research, General Economics, Indian Economic Problems and Research Methodology and dissertation/project report. There are approximately 3000 books related to the subject in the Central Library. Apart from this the department has a U.G.C. Library which contains 1086 books. Besides this, we have a Departmental Association through which some text books were purchased in the past. The department has 05 Computers, 01 Over Head Projector, V.C.R., Photocopier, one Slide Projector, T.V., L.C.D Projector and a Smart Board.

Gandhian Study Centre: An Ancillary Unit of the Department

This centre was established during the 10th plan period under the able Directorship of Prof. N.P. Pathak, Professor, Department of Business Economics. As the name suggests, the activity of this centre revolves around Gandhi’s Philosophy of truth, non-violence and simple life. It organizes programmes on the occasions related to Mahatma Gandhi. A series of 150 programmes were celebrated from 2nd October, 2018 to 2nd October, 2019 by the Gandhian Study Centre under the canopy of the department. On this occasion various programmes were held throughout the year.

Various popular lectures were organised in the different units of the department by inviting learned professors of various universities. Many other extracurricular activities have been organized by the department, such as Birth Anniversaries celebration of our great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Nehru, Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel and Indira Gandhi, Teacher’s Day etc.
